I was born in 1970 in Varanasi, India, a city steeped in history and culture. My father, a mechanical engineer, and an amazing artist and my mother, a homemaker trained in Indian classical music, nurtured a love for learning and creativity in our home. However, life took an unexpected turn when I lost my father during my 12th grade. With our financial situation, pursuing anything beyond a simple graduation was impossible.
Art was always a quiet presence in my life, even when I couldn’t actively pursue it. I found small ways to keep the connection alive—teaching my students how to draw, creating Christmas and New Year’s greeting cards to sell for extra money. But as years unfolded, financial stability took precedence. My career led me into the corporate world in Mumbai, where I spent years juggling demanding jobs, long hours, and the relentless pressures of work and survival. Stress, exhaustion, and the struggle to keep up with life’s ever-mounting responsibilities left me with little time or energy for creative pursuits. Art felt like a distant dream, something I had buried under the weight of deadlines and responsibilities. That decade was solely about survival, and I convinced myself that my passion for painting belonged to another lifetime.
Fast forward to 2013, when I made a life-changing decision—to leave behind a full-fledged career and move to the USA with my husband. Little did I know that this shift would bring me back to my forever passion. Initially, the transition was overwhelming—starting over in a new country with no career, no clear direction, and a sense of losing my professional identity. But in that emptiness, something unexpected happened: I found my way back to art. Life has its crazy ways, and in this second act, I have embraced painting wholeheartedly, as if making up for all the lost years.
A self-taught artist, I find deep inspiration in the Post-Impressionist era, particularly in its rich textures and emotive landscapes. My work is a reflection of Earth, the very essence of life, captured in an abstract, expressionistic, and intuitive way. I paint lush landscapes infused with organic, surreal qualities, using oils and acrylics to explore the Earth's natural beauty in its metaphysical form. Each piece is a fusion of reality and imagination, where kaleidoscopic colors, shifting perspectives, and intricate motifs create an unorthodox yet harmonious vision of nature.
I never use reference images, as I find them restrictive to my creative flow. Instead, my process is entirely intuitive—shaped by subconscious impulses and a deep internal dialogue with the canvas. I begin without a predefined vision, allowing each piece to evolve layer by layer. As textures build and colors interact, the painting continuously transforms, often taking on an entirely new dimension from where it started. This organic evolution is what excites me most—watching the unexpected emerge, letting the work guide me rather than the other way around.
Through my art, I seek to celebrate Earth—the home we all share—and to evoke a deep connection with its beauty. My paintings are a tribute to the planet that sustains us, inviting viewers to experience the wonder and spirit of the world around us.
